We will go to the only town in Panevėžys district – Ramygala. In the old mill of Ramygala, which has preserved the authentic centuries-old equipment, we will participate in the educational program “Grain Road”. We will visit the largest wildlife reserve in Europe – the European bison. We will look at the oxbow lakes of the River Nevėžis from above. We will take a walk in the center of Panevėžys, visit the Panevėžys Narrow Gauge railway Museum and the GlasRemis art glass studio.

Panevėžys region attractions

We will travel to the only town in Panevėžys district – Ramygala. Ramygala is famous for the only surviving bookstore in the district, a park, local bakery pastries, the history of the region written on the walls of the buildings and other exceptional features. We will find out why Ramygala is still called the capital of goats, where the local people go when there is a lack of buttons and we will see its celebrity – the century-old church of Ramygala. The town is also famous for its old mill, built in 1929, which still houses authentic Swedish equipment. The old motorized Ramygala millhouse offers not only grain processing services today. We will also participate in the educational program “Grain Road”, where we will hear wonderful stories, get acquainted with the millhouse, grain processing process and types of cereals. We will enjoy bread or cakes baked in a wood-fired oven and made from the flour of this millhouse.

We will start our acquaintance with Krekenava Regional Park in Pašiliai Bison Reserve, where the largest wild animals of Europe – European bisons – are kept. These animals are listed not only in Lithuania, but also in the international Red Book. Until the 16th bisons were widespread throughout Europe. The development of agriculture, the rapid proliferation of people, and intensified hunting pushed them into scarce, remote, wooded forests, and bisons began to decline rapidly. European bisons were eradicated in Lithuania until 1854. Pašiliai bisons reserve  has been around for more than half a century. Here we will be able to admire the European bisons from the covered platform-observation tower. We will observe these huge animals close, learn about life, habits and why the names of the European bisons living here name begin with the letters Gi.

After getting acquainted with the European bisons, we will travel to Krekenava. It is one of the most picturesque corners of Panevėžys region. Its value is Nevėžis with its expressive bends and impressive strings of oxbow lakes. Here we will get acquainted with the natural values ​​of this park, such as a trail of Senses, where we will try to feel, understand, hear what the wind, land, trees, water will tell you… From the 25 m observation tower the with oxbow lake panorama will open in fronto f us.

We will go to the fifth largest town in Lithuania – Panevėžys. In Panevėžys, called the capital of Aukštaitija, we will visit its center. Here we will see the monument to the founder of the town, the Grand Duke of Lithuania and the King of Poland Alexander Jogailaitis. The Grand Duke donated land between the Lėvuo and Nevėžis rivers to the pastor of Ramygala on the condition that a church would be built in this area. We will admire the Nevėžis senvage in the very center and explain what crabs do there. We will see an ash tree decorated with several thousand keys, which even changed the traditions of newlyweds in Panevėžys.

We will visit the Panevėžys Narrow Gauge rail way Museum, where you will see the station chief’s house, its interior, the roof of historical vehicles with exhibited vehicles: road grader, wooden freight wagon, tank, platform, snow plow and even ice-wagon. We will also have the opportunity to try a short but impressive trip down the narrow road.

Here we will learn everything about glass, its production process, look around the shop and be able to observe the whole production process, how works of art are made of glass.
